News on HP and Hard Drive Shortage

Kyle DeBord
Vice-President of Sales, Connecting Point

There are a couple of things that have transpired in the computer industry in the last month that I believe are worthwhile to note.   First, a typhoon caused massive flooding to parts of Thailand at the end of August.   This flooding has covered about one-third of Thailand’s surface area.  What does this have to do with technology you ask?  The flooding has had serious impact on the countries manufacturing business, notably the manufacturing of computer hard drives.

Connecting Point is pleased to announce their acquisition of the Performance Computer Division of Mader Tschacher Peterson & Co., LLC in Laramie, WY.   The CPA and consulting firm has provided computer sales and services to its clients over the last fourteen years.  However, as of March 1st, 2011 they have decided to focus solely on their accounting and consulting practice and will be transitioning their computer division to Connecting Point.

CRN Recognizes Connecting Point

In a recent issue of CRN, 10 VAR's were recognized for their longevity in the industry.  Ted Warner, President and CEO of Connecting Point was quoted, "Connecting Point has survived and flourished for over 25 years because we have embraced the changes in our industry and have not been afraid to change our business model. We have changed our business model three times and are really in the midst of a fourth change."

Included among last week’s announcements was the HP board’s decision to evaluate strategic alternatives for the Personal Systems Group business. Although these may include a range of options, this was not an announcement of a shutdown of the company’s PC business.

New Director of Services

Connecting Point is proud to announce the promotion of Geoff Anderson to the position of Director of Services for Connecting Point.  Geoff will work alongside Ken Sponsler, the VP of Services, to provide leadership and direction to our entire Service Team through implementation and testing of new service offerings & products, training of new personnel, and recommendation of actions required and/or needed for service improvement.

CPG Receives CompTIA Security Trustmark

Connecting Point Greeley announced it has received the CompTIA Security Trustmark™ from Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the leading trade association for world’s information technology (IT) industry.  The CompTIA Security Trustmark validates that Connecting Point uses the security processes identified by the IT industry as generally accepted best practices.

Partner Success Story

The Managed Service Provider business at Connecting Point of Greeley was on the move, but its security component was dragging down margins. CEO Ted Warner turned to Sophos to reduce the burden on his tech team and restore profitability. Today, his MSP revenue is 4 times more profitable than his traditional on-site business.
